I started dancing at an early age, studying and teaching modern dance 1967-1977. Certified as an ACE group fitness instructor, specializing in step, kickboxing, mat form Pilates, and certified Johnny G Spin instructor 1985-2008.
Aziz was my first belly dance teacher in 1988. His dance style was very much influenced by Jamilla Salimpour’s style. I fell in love with the dance, textiles, and movement. He referred me to one of his colleagues, Zahirah, for further instruction upon my expressed interest in sword dance. In 1990, I began advanced study with Zahirah. I was able to enhance my dance skill with sword dance as well as Lebanese, Khalleegy, Ber-Ber line, Saidi, and Turkish Rom styles of dance. I was invited to join the Desert Orchid Dance Company. Noted sword performances in Suzy Evan’s IAMED production “Rock’n the Casba” and Las Vegas, Luxor Hotel, and Casino.
Bit By The ATS Bug! I saw FCBD perform for the first time in SLC. I fell in love with the dance and the ladies who performed. I started my ATS journey in 2004, went on to GS, TT, TT2, achieved SS, and staying current on SSCE.
In 2009, I was a co creator of the Davina Tribal Collective. Through collaboration efforts with Carolena Nerricio-Bohman, the sword dialect DVD “ATS® with an Edge” was produced. Sword Teachers credited include Zahirah, Alexandra King, and Sabine. Credits workshop influences, Belladonna.
